The Role of “Passagge” in the World of FTWD

While Passagge does not feature an explicit crossover with the main characters of the TWD Universe, its geographical and temporal setting is crucial to understanding the geopolitics of the end of the world:

  • Mexico as the “Promised Land“: In the early stages of the apocalypse (August 2010), the perception among West Coast survivors was that Mexico was weathering the pandemic much better than the United States. This same belief will drive Victor, Madison, Nick, and Alicia to sail to Baja California to take refuge in Thomas’s fortified estate (Season 2). Colton’s tunnel confirms that both civilians and military deserters saw the South as their only hope of salvation.
  • The National Guard’s Collapse on the Border: The deserted military base explored by Sierra visually demonstrates the complete failure of the U.S. government’s last lines of containment. The army, decimated by internal conflicts and desertions (represented by Colton’s madness), abandoned strategic checkpoints in less than three weeks, leaving the border completely unguarded and at the mercy of hordes of wanderers.

Format, distribution, setting

Consisting of 16 micro-episodes originally aired between 2016 and 2017 during the airing of Season 7 of The Walking Dead, the series is set entirely along the border between the southern United States and Mexico, inside an abandoned military outpost and its underground tunnels.

What happens to Sierra and Gabi after the “Passage” finale?

After managing to escape through the underground tunnel and eliminating Colton, Sierra and Gabi enter Mexican territory. Their story doesn’t continue within the regular television seasons, leaving their fate open.

August 24, 2010
Wearing a hazmat suit, Sierra explores a seemingly abandoned military camp. At first, she sees only corpses, until she spots a girl hiding. The young woman is Gaby, injured in the foot and searching for her boyfriend Colton, who had assured her that in this camp there was a hidden tunnel leading to Mexico.
The two women eventually find Colton, who guides them toward the tunnel but then tries to get rid of them both. Together, Sierra and Gaby manage to kill him and reach the tunnel’s exit, free to head toward Mexico.

P.S.: The dates in the timeline are approximate, but everything happened more or less around those days.
