In the eighth season of The Walking Dead we witness the long-awaited showdown with the Saviors, on which the sad end of Carl will have a fundamental role.
After bloody clashes, infinite ruthlessness and gore to the nth degree, the long conflict with Negan and his army will be decided and defined through an unexpected act of pity and mercy by Rick, aroused in him by the last will of his son.
It is also famous for being the season that covers the shortest time frame of the entire The Walking Dead epic, just one week.
Below is a summary of the pivotal events in the timeline of TWD's Eighth Season.
PS: the dates are approximate but more or less it all happened in those days.

April 15th, 2012
The allied army of Alexandria, Hilltop and The Kingdom attacks various outposts of the Saviors. During one of the fighting, Eric is killed.
April 17th, 2012
Carl is bitten while rescuing Siddick who wad attacked by a group of walkers. Pending certain death, he prefers to commit suicide with a gunshot. Simon kills all the Scavenegers except Jadis.
April 20th, 2012
Negan kills Simon.
April 21st, 2012
Reached the final battle, Negan succumbs to Rick who spares him, causing the anger of Maggie and Daryl who do not accept his decision.
April 22nd, 2012
Morgan moves to live alone in the old Scavenegers settlement.
June 11th, 2012 (happens off stage)
Morgan leaves Virginia (and The Walking Dead) and heads west.
September 21st, 2012 (happens off stage)
Maggie gives birth to Glenn's son, Hershel.
